We knew out accommodation was near, but how near? We were to find out from the poor taxi driver, it was only a short block away!! The door bell was answered by a charming nun, wearing the full white habit.
Taking the lift to the third floor, we found our very clean three single bed room next to the bathroom. Naturally the art work on walls pertained to religion. As we were hungry we decided on a pub meal across from the bus station. JUDITH enjoyed pork bangers and mash while I ate half my roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, served with many vegetables. A goodly square meal washed down by sparkling water. My eyes wandered enviously to Judith's beer. Being on medication I decided to be a good girl.
After a comfortable sleep, with me coughing most of the night, we went to the basement for a breakfast of fried eggs and two sausages, toast and jam. JUDITH was happy to organise her backpack for her travels, while I rested, wondering how I would gather energy for the trip to America next day.
Leaving some luggage in care of the nuns, at 8.30 I wheeled my case to the depot to get the 9 am bus to the airport. There were officials to ask directions of. All very polite. Many buses were lined up ready for departure at designated times. All very punctual. After a 40 minute ride costing six pounds fifty, I arrived at terminal 1. A change of bus and half hour later, I was at terminal 5. On entering the departure lounge, a kindly man asked if he could help. He did the boarding pass and took me to the drop desk. Feeling poorly and thankful I burst into tears!!!
Customs went smoothly, took a lift to boarding lounge, then a bus that seemed to go every which way, to the plane.
After a meal,of curried chicken, I got engrossed in a mini series, one of a variety from which to choose.
Barbara, Ann and Mel were there to greet me. A nice feeling of security. After a nice meal, I fell into bed, and slept between coughing my heart up.
