OUR LAST BLOG

HWhat a day Judith and I
had.  Our last day in London.  It began after a breakfast of egg bacon, tomato and toast at the Convent.  We were offered orange juice or tea or coffee, but only one of the three!!!  Then to pay for and book our ticket on the bus to the airport at 7 am tomorrow the 6th, and to  find a bus to Harrods store.  Finding a place to buy the ticket took ages and much walking.  Five pounds ,,,ten dollars...  Entitled us to travel anywhere all day on buses.  We used a return only!

Arriving at Harrods we hurried through the perfume section and asked one of numerous chaps standing on guard, where the food hall was. His reply was "you must see Dianne and Daudies memorial on the lower ground floor, I will take you there." Being curious and not wanting to offend we accepted.  A large photo of each between a variety of silk flowers was over the top.

Taking the narrow escalator to the top floor ..the fifth..enabled us to view Egyptian decorated walls and items through glass walls.  Beautiful shoes, handbags and "frock' shops displayed their wares in an arcade within the store .  The food hall was fantastic.  You will see photos on my blog site.  We bought food, me a pie of course, and sat outside on one of a few seats to eat lunch.

Walking through part of Hyde Park to Buck P was delightful and peaceful.  Didn't see Betty or any other Royal, but many people were busy having their photo taken at the gates.  More walking we arrived at the Supreme Court. Can we go in I asked.  Certainly, if you go through security.  There is a case being heard.   For ten minutes We listened to a deceased claims case, then took the lift to the second floor to the Supreme Court room.  We were allowed to walk in and take photos.  Again refer to my blog.

After taking photos of Big Ben and Parliament House, we made for Westminster Abbey, but too late to enter.  Never mind, years ago we had seen inside.  We decided to walk to the river where we viewed The Eye.  The queue for the ferry across the river was long.  We had no intention of riding it anyway.

As a strong nippy wind blew, it was time to get a bus back to the convent to pack.  Well, where to get a bus.  After walking almost back we finally got a bus to Victoria station, then it was three long blocks back.  Fortification of a beer half way made my knee feel not as sore!!

After packing, we went to a nearby pub for a farewell meal of sausages and onion sauce on mashed, potato, washed down by a stout on tap  for me and a beer for  Judith.

We are now ready for an early night.  Should be going to a play
or a show, but need to go horizontal for as long as possible.  We have a long flight tomorrow with a three hour stop in Singapore. Australia, here we come. We haven't found anywhere else We would like to live!

Margaret's BLOG

Mike Rimmer taught my boys history at Kepnock High School.  He has kep in contact with students and some parents.  I was thrilled when he said he would meet me on my arrival from America.   After showing me his garden, we had lunch at a near by hotel and caught up on his news.  He is writing an autobiography.  After a 1 1/2 train ride and a three block walk to the nunnery where JUDITH and I are  staying for two nights, I am happy to turn in, considering my half hour sleep on the flight from America.

MARGARET'S BLOG

Sunday we walked along blocked, off streets in the up market superb of  Chestnut Hill.  Many stalls displayed  hand made arts and crafts , all for sale, also plants and clothing.  Barbara bought me a pale pink hat as the Sun Was quite strong.   Barbara took Anne, Mel and I to lunch at a nice restaurant.  We arrived home at 3 p.m. To play Bridge.  All very stressful for me, as it was my first time . I am too old to learn!

At 7pm it was time to head for the airport for,a sad farewell.  The,plane wasn't full.  Beside me there were two spare seats.  Great I thought, I will stretch out.  Not to be as a young chap moved to one after it was announced people could sit anywhere after the seat belt sign went off.  Needless to say, I slept for only 1/2 hr. It took one hour to go through customs and get luggage.

Into the town of Whitby and then up MBSteps to begin walk to Robin Hood's Bay but got side tracked and ended up looking around this wonderful old Church.

MARGARET'S ACTIVITIES

We are on the highway from New York to Philadelphia, having spent the day with Anme's son BZen and his family.  We arrived at Central Park at 11.am after driving around a few blocks before finding a car park three blocks from the park.  The perfect spring day brought families to the park for sport and picnics.  The huge popular park for people living in units and apartments  has walking paths and sporting grounds, but lacks tables and places to sit.

Alex's soft ball game had commenced by the time we placed, our folding chairs and rugs on the grass beside the field.  Jen arrived with sandwiches for lunch, while Ben poured a chilled white wine. Sophie and Sabrina entertained with stories of their recent week in London.   Game over we went to Jen and Ben's apartment one block from the other end of the park.  After a cool drink, we walked three blocks to the children's school where many children were playing, some on skate boards.

Traffic is flowing at 110 ks per hour on the five lane expressway, so all being well we should be home safely after a couple of hours.

MARGARET IN PHILADELPHIA 2015

Today we drove west from Philadelphia for one hour to the Brandywine Museum that exhibits paintings by three generations of the Wyeth family.  The  building is situated beside a river that flows through beautiful park lands.  A twenty minute drive further west brought us to a winery where we laid out our picnic lunch on a table at the back of the winery.  After a tasting of good wines, we headed for home on a scenic back road, arriving home in time for a nap before leaving to hear music and singing at. A Piano bar, 3/4 hr drive north.

The pianist was very entertaining as were most of the singers who weren't shy to perform.  Yours truly remained seated at the grand piano.  Right now we are driving home in heavy traffic due to road works.  We had planned to do the Cinderella thing!   New York tomorrow to watch Anne's grandson play soft ball.
