BRUGES

Notre Dame, our abode till Sunday when we get the bus to London, is central to squares restaurants and of course  the Cathedral and the church where the Madona and child is housed.  Michaelangelo  certainly did a good job of that marble carving.  We paid our two euros for a closer view,  actually it is not well guarded.  Only a rope around the alter. Perhaps there are hidden cameras.

For half an hour, we putted around several canals, seeing numerous white swans and common ducks.  The  twelve year old Labrador lying half out the window on its cushion, did not flinch as some whistled! Guess who?

At the suggestion of Judith's daughter, we decided to see Damn, about six miles north.  No bike ride for us, so for 20 euro we got a taxi. We looked enviously at cyclists belting along either side of the canal.   After walking around the quaint town, viewing an old cemetery and eating asparagus soup in a sunny courtyard, we made for the paddle boat.  Only one authentic windmill was visible beside the canal. Our quiet blissful journey  suddenly we came to a brick wall!!!  Oh no, this was as far as the boat went. After finally finding the bus stop we got a bus back to town.

Can you believe, Dinner was at the Pizza Hut !!!!very salty lasagna, washed down by a rough red. The good restaurant we ate at the night before was closed.

Tomorrow. Judith Is off to the battle fields.  I will do battle with my health in bed,
